“Global Practices of Banning Political Parties: Protecting Democracy or Undermining Its Foundations?”

On April 28, the University of Georgia’s Security, Policy and Nationalism Research Center — UGSPN — held a public discussion on the topic: “Global Practices of Banning Political Parties: Protecting Democracy or Undermining Its Foundations?”

The discussion addressed international practices of banning political parties, as well as their legal and political foundations. The conversation focused on the need to maintain a difficult balance between protecting democracy and preserving political pluralism.

The participants also discussed the issue of banning political parties in Georgia and the possible political and legal consequences that this process may entail.
